Few people will ever purchase a Kadey-Krogen by accident. Fans of Kadey-Krogen yachts are serious sea people, willing to settle for nothing less than an incredibly stout vessel capable of extended bluewater coastal cruising and transoceanic voyages. While some boaters will be more quickly impressed by some mass-market vessel's latest whiz-bang glitz or inconsequential gilding, those who most admire the limited production Kadey Krogen yachts see beyond the very attractive lines and gaze deep into the heart and purpose of the boat. Form follows function in Kadey-Krogen yachts, and just as the vessels function beautifully, so is their form is beautiful as well.
Certainly, not every boater who is attracted to Kadey-Krogen is planning an ocean voyage. Kadey Krogens are very popular in the Pacific Northwest and many vessels never travel farther from Puget Sound than a passage to SE Alaska. Some of that cruising could indeed be done on a lesser boat. However, the same qualities and characteristics that make a Kadey Krogen a safe and appropriate choice for crossing thousands of miles of open sea permit an even greater margin of safety and comfort that is easily recognized by regional boaters. There's some priceless peace of mind associated with owning a vessel that could embark on a 'round the world cruise, even if it won't be used for that purpose.
It's worth noting that Kadey Krogen Yachts have one of the higher percentages of live-aboard owners in the boating industry. Many of the serious sea people who choose Kadey Krogen don't go home from their boats after they come in from a cruise or a voyage, they are home.
"BRASS MONKEY" was built in 2003. She has benefited from 2 knowledgeable and careful owners, maintained to a high standard. She has 2,565 hours on her 135 -HP John Deere 4045, with historical oil sampling available. She's equipped with an active fin stabilization system, full complement of navigational equipment and a new Hurricane hydronic heating system.
Like all Krogen Yachts, "BRASS MONKEY" is of full displacement design. She sits more "in" than "on" the water, much like a sailboat. The rounded bilges, pronounced keel, and sea kindly shaping fore and aft permit a displacement hull to work with, rather than against, the motion of the ocean. Boaters more accustomed to flat bottomed, hard chine boats might notice a slightly livelier motion in calm conditions, but when Mother Nature decides to throw a serious tantrum a great many experienced boaters believe there is no better ride than a displacement hull. BUT then again you have active fin stabilization with this one!
Being a "walk around" design, you have access to both sides of the hull making the task of docking to either side a breeze. And for true enjoyment and expansion of your saloon area, the cockpit is enclosed with use of the highest quality Rainier Glass product! Another feature of the Krogen 39 that you're sure to love - a stand-up engine room! That's right! A 39' yacht with a standing engine room with work desk and storage beneath!
With her prominent pilothouse, and generous freeboard resembles a small ship as much as she does most pleasure boats of similar size. More importantly to the legions of Krogen fans, she will behave like a small ship when underway.
As we step aboard "BRASS MONKEY" from either port or starboard boarding gates, we enter the teak decked, fully covered cockpit. Many of our customers refer to this area as their "back porch". "BRASS MONKEY" has the added benefit of a cockpit enclosure by Barrett. The Barrett glass is a polycarbonate material that has a UV coating, extremely long-life and clarity. This is an ultra-high quality enclosure, providing all season comfort.
You enter the saloon living area through a Pacific Marine watertight door. There is a settee to port and an L-shaped dinette starboard, with expandable table, comfortably seating 5 for dining. There is abundant storage beneath the settee and dinette. Large opening windows surround the living area and feature custom retractable shades and sliding, teak framed screens. The interior also features high quality lighting, custom - upgraded Ultra-Leather interior cushions and high quality carpeting. Teak soles are beneath. Forward of the settee is a bookcase/storage unit. This is a very comfortable and social saloon that flows nicely into the galley.
Galley is starboard and is equipped with a Force 10 stove/oven, Sea Freeze ultra-efficient refrigerator/freezer, flush mounted GE Spacemaker II microwave oven and additional upgraded lighting. This is a comfortable, well equipped efficient galley!
The pilothouse is just a few steps up from the galley/saloon. "BRASS MONKEY" has a custom table mounted at the settee. The pilothouse sole is sound proofed with Soundown noise reducing underpayment beneath the carpeting. The visibility out of the pilothouse is superb. Pacific Marine watertight dutch doors are at port and starboard sides allowing access to the wide side decks.
Proceeding down the curved stairs takes you to the living quarters and the stand-up engine room. Starboard is the head and separate stall shower. Forward is the spacious owner's stateroom. It is equipped with an island queen sized berth that lifts on pneumatic gas struts to reveal an enormous storage locker beneath. Numerous portlights and an Ocean Series Lewmar hatch, provide abundant light and ventilation. There are many deep drawers and large hanging lockers throughout including a mirrored bureau/dressing station.
